SPECIAL NEEDS PLANNING, GUARDIANSHIPS/CONSERVATORSHIPS, ESTATE PLANNING, PROBATE, AND ELDER LAW

Attorney Laura Akins Smith has over ten years of experience helping individuals and families throughout the greater Atlanta area. Her practice focuses on special needs planning, estate planning, probate, guardianship, and elder law. Laura is deeply committed to guiding clients through some of the most personal and emotional moments of their lives — whether they are planning for the future or navigating the loss of a loved one.

Originally from Atlanta, Laura appreciates the opportunity to serve her hometown. From a young age, Laura was called to make a meaningful difference in other people’s lives. She began her career in a law firm centered on estate planning for typical individuals and families. For the past several years, Laura has developed a strong foundation in special needs planning and elder law. She now practices with Kwartin & Levine, continuing her mission to help families protect their loved ones and their legacies. With empathy and a calm presence, Laura listens closely to her clients’ goals and ensures they feel supported and informed every step of the way.

Laura is enjoys being involved in Georgia’s legal community. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and is an active member of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers and the Atlanta Bar Association. Laura has been nominated as a Super Lawyers’ “Rising Star” for the past six years.

Her commitment to service extends beyond her legal work. Laura dedicates significant time to volunteer leadership, serving on the Boards of the Threshold Community Program in Decatur and the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta.

Laura received her B.A. in History from the University of Georgia and her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Outside the office, Laura loves spending time with her two sons and her husband, trying new restaurants, and exploring the outdoors. Her favorite travel destination (so far!) is Japan.
